Pastor, wife, two others swept off in Plateau floods

No fewer than four people, including a couple, have been confirmed killed by flood at Nyelleng and Gwabi communities of Pankshin Local Government Area.

A pastor, his wife, and two others died in the floodwaters, which resulted from heavy rain in the area between Monday and Wednesday last week.

The only bridge linking the area with other parts of the state was submerged and some residents returning from a neighbouring local market tried to wade through died in it.

Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council Audu Kak’mena while sympathising with the victims’ families and the community, advised people to be cautious while crossing rivers during the rainy season.

Kak’mena Audu visited the family of Evangelist Daniel Goma who died in the flood alongside his wife.

Responding, the eldest son of the deceased, Jonathan Daniel thanked the chairman for the sympathy visit.

The Chairman was also at the house of Nendirmwa Kamshinen, an expectant mother, who sustained injuries as a result of the flood.

Nendirmwa Kamshinen said that she was swept off by the flood while crossing the bridge and thanked God she was able to hold a tree inside the river and survived.
