Battle for control of Legislature fierce between Democrats and Republicans in US election

By Danusa Ocholi[with agency reports]

It is expected to be one of the fiercest mid-term elections in the history of the United States. Results are being declared in the US midterm elections – the battle for control of Congress is hanging in the balance

The Republicans are likely to take control of the House of Representatives, according to projections, but the Senate fight is on a knife-edge

If Democrats lose control of either, Republicans will be able to block President Joe Biden’s agenda

According to BBC, former President Donald Trump, who is expected to announce he will run for president in 2024, has seen some of his endorsed candidates fail in the ongoing election.

Democrat John Fetterman, who suffered a stroke in May, beat Republican opponent Mehmet Oz, a celebrity TV doctor, in the Pennsylvania Senate race

But the results of several tight Senate races – in the states of Georgia, Arizona and Nevada – have yet to be called

In Georgia, election officials say the result is looking so close it may go to another vote in early December

Meanwhile Florida’s Republican governor Ron DeSantis has won a large victory to stay in office, setting him up for a potential 2024 presidential bid
