As the 2023 national elections draw closer with the Presidential poll holding on February 25, a notable community leader and retired public servant, Alhaji Abdullahi Afa Ndanusa ,has enjoined Nigerians to elect leader that will address the nation’s numerous challenges.
Alhaji Ndanusa who stated in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja . said top on the list of the challenges the new leader will have to address is that of the economy in dire strait , coupled with youth unemployment. Speaking on the economy in particular, he said ‘Nigeria will need to open its door to foreign investment, from various parts of the world to stimulate growth.’ I believe with the economy doing well, the problem of youth employment and related insecurity will be addressed” he stated.
Alhaji Ndanusa said the inflow of foreign investment will go a long way in creating jobs for the country’s youths, adding: “I believe if there is massive flow of foreign investment, employment problem in the country would be greatly solved. Economy is the main force. If it is right, if it is put in place, insecurity will be reduced.”
Alhaji Ndanusa similarly called on the incoming leadership to tackle the energy crisis facing the nation as a matter of urgency. He bemoaned the state of the major energy requirements of the country: electricity and petroleum, currently experiencing inadequate supply has caused hardship among the citizens and slowdown in economic activities. On electricity, Alhaji Ndanusa the seasoned administrator said since the sector is anchored on the tripod of, generating, transmission and distribution, a lot still need to be done on distribution in particular to enable it reach the consumers. He said although the present government has been doing a lot to improve the sector, its privatization has not brought about the desired result. He commended the Buhari administration in its efforts in bringing foreign investors to improve on the nation’s electricity sector, an area the incoming government, he said will build upon. To ensure efficient distribution of petroleum, he said the new leader will have no choice but to remove subsidy to tackle corruption that has bogged down the sector form making the desired progress, especially the availability of fuel to Nigerians.
