The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has assured members in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, that their seven and half months withheld salary arrears will be released soon.
President Comrade Emmanuel Osodeke gave the assurance at the foundation laying ceremony of the ASUU NAU Guest House. He thanked the former Executive Committee and retired members for their efforts, saying efforts were being made by the national body to ensure the salaries are released.
Osodeke, who praised the chapter for its efforts in getting the benefits for members in the medical line, urged the members not to give up on struggles which ‘are urgently needful’.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, commended the cordial working relationship between ASUU and other unions since the present administration came on board.
Prof. Esimone, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, also thanked the unions for the peace they have maintained in the university, and urged them to sustain the tempo for more progress.
ASUU NAU Chairperson, Comrade Stephen Ufoaroh, said the guest house project, being the second phase of the union’s secretariat complex, would provide accommodation for conference attendees, researchers and other visitors. The facility would also generate income and create employment, he added.
