Ambassador Aminu Abubakar Majidadi, the National President of the renown anti-corruption NGO; Almushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (AITA) has called on the people of Kano State to remain calm and devoid from any act of violence as reaction to the Kano State governorship election tribunal judgement that sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the March 18 election
On Wednesday, the three-man panel ordered withdrawal of certificate of return which INEC presented to Governor Yusuf and directed a certificate of return to be issued to Gawuna.
The court deducted 165,663 votes from Gov Yusuf total as invalid votes, stating that the ballot papers (165,663) were not stamped or signed and therefore declared invalid.
The declaration of results worsened the tension in the state that caused imposition of 24-hour curfew in Kano State by the state Police command as part of measures to stop any act of violence and breaking of law and order.
The Kano state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, in a statement he personally signed, said a combined team of security operatives have been dispatched across the city to enforce the curfew.
In a statement made available to Capitalwatch Media, Tuesday, Ambassador Majidadi who held from the state called on the good people of Kano state to remain calm and give room to no violence as whatever grievances or disatisfaction they have with the judgement should be approach legally.
“I am calling on my fellow good people of Kano state to devoid from any act of violence as remedy to their discontentment to the tribunal judgement. There is no justification to any act of breaking of the law to show one’s dissatisfaction, rather our people across all parties should embrace peace for the common good of our state.” Majidadi said.
“Regardless of our political affiliations, Kano people must at this time option legal means of pursuing their claims and not violence.” He added.
In conclusion, Majidadi said it is only when there is peace that progress will avail and no society succeeds in an atmosphere of rancor.
