The Police Service Commission in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force has announced the commencement of recruitment of interested and qualified Nigerians into the force as constable (recruits).

Saturday PUNCH reports that the latest development brings to an end the over four years fierce legal battle between the PSC and the NPF, on who should be responsible for the recruitment following the approval given by former President Muhammadu Buhari to recruit 10,000 police constables each year for six years.

In July, 2023, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the PSC to solely take the responsibility of recruiting officers on the rank of constables for the Nigeria Police Force.

Meanwhile, Saturday PUNCH reports that following his assumption of office, the Chairman of the PSC, Solomon Arase, in April, 2023 ruled out further rift between the commission and the Nigeria Police Force over recruitment of police constables into the force.

Speaking during the inauguration, Arase promised that the exercise would commence in no distant time, adding that it was coming on the heels of the presidential approval for the annual recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the Force.

Members of the board, who were inaugurated at the headquarters of the commission has the Commissioner representing South-East Zone at the PSC, Onyemuche Nnamani, as the Chairman, while Olabode Akinbamilowo, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, will serve as the Secretary.

The PSC, in a newspaper advert published on Friday, announced the commencement of the recruitment process for qualified individuals into the rank of Police Constables in the General Duty and Specialist Cadres. The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun issued a strong charge to all applicants, urging them to exercise vigilance and caution throughout the application process.

The bulletin, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, reads, “The Police Recruitment Board is set to open the application portal on October 15, 2023, marking the beginning of an essential phase in enhancing the Force’s capabilities and effectiveness.
