AITA national president ambassador Aminu abubakar majidaid has applauded the federal government for deciding to implement the Orosanye report that intend to merge, subsume and close some government department and agencies, in order to cut the cost of governance.
The national president said the implementation is one of the surest ways to make governance cost effective, productive and efficient as the three components of the report advocate a drastic reduction in the cost of governance, plus the increase in efficiency and effectiveness in order to raise the level of productivity while eliminating overlapping responsibilities.
He said the implementation is a welcome idea as it is long overdue giving that several quarters have been calling for its implementation, due to the high cost of governance in Nigeria especially given the level of hardship currently being experience around the country.
However the national president calls for careful implementation so as not make worker lose their jobs given the present situation as there are fears of a possible retrenchment in the civil service, although the government said the implementation will not reduce workers but aims to ensure fiscal prudence and a responsible government.
Ambassador Aminu Majidadi said he expect that the implementation will go through a thorough review, so that essential services are not compromised and the need of the citizens are adequately addressed.
