The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked claims circulating in the media regarding the arrest of Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State. In a statement issued by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, the Commission clarified that Bello is not in its custody.

According to the statement, reports suggesting that the former governor is being held by the EFCC are incorrect. The Commission emphasized that, while Bello has been declared wanted over alleged involvement in an N80.2 billion money laundering case, he has not been apprehended.

Oyewale reiterated that the EFCC’s warrant for Bello’s arrest remains active and that the former governor continues to be wanted in connection with the ongoing investigation. The Commission urged the public to disregard any misleading reports suggesting otherwise, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring that all individuals linked to financial crimes are brought to justice.
Bello’s alleged role in the laundering of N80.2 billion has remained a focal point for investigators, with the EFCC keen on executing the outstanding arrest warrant.
