The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit and substandard products worth ₦43 billion in a major operation in Ibadan, Oyo State. The destruction exercise took place at a dumpsite in Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area, and included falsified drugs, medical devices, and other unwholesome regulated items.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Christiana Adeyeye, highlighted the success of the operation, attributing it to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders. She revealed that over 30 types of products were seized, including banned codeine-based substances and narcotic drugs.

Intelligence gathered by NAFDAC also uncovered illegal warehousing, sales, and distribution of Schedule One narcotics by certain pharmaceutical vendors in Lagos and other parts of the country. This led to nationwide raids by the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, resulting in the seizure of products worth over ₦700 million.

Prof. Adeyeye called on the public to support NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to combat counterfeit drugs, fake products, and substandard food by reporting illegal activities to the nearest NAFDAC office for prompt action.
