Eleven political parties are participating in the local government elections across seventeen local government areas of Plateau State, to elect chairmen and councillors to run the affairs of the council areas for the next two years
Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission indicated that 75 candidates are contesting for the chairmanship positions, while 788 candidates are in contention for the councilorship seats in the 355 wards.

Chairman Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, Daniel Cishak emphasised the electoral body’s commitment to organise credible and fair elections.
“This election is unique, as we have consistently adhered to our timelines—except for one postponement regarding election guidelines during the nationwide protests.” The chairman added.

On 7th September 2024, the transition implementation committee chairmen were dissolved as directors of personnel took over to pave the way for the elections.
