NAFDAC The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has alerted Nigerians to the circulation of an unregistered brand of condoms called Foula Condoms.

On Thursday, NAFDAC reported that these condoms were discovered by officials in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, and Zango, Katsina State, as part of a routine risk-based surveillance of registered condom brands.

According to NAFDAC, Foula Condoms, packaged in sets of three and labeled in a non-English language, are not registered for use in Nigeria.

The agency warned that unregistered condoms pose significant health risks, as their quality, safety, and effectiveness are unverified.

This could compromise efforts to prevent unintended pregnancies and protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, especially if the condoms leak or break.

NAFDAC has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and remove the illegal product from circulation.

The agency also urged “importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare providers, and consumers to exercise caution, ensuring that all medical products come from authorised suppliers and are verified for authenticity.

“Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any suspicious or substandard products to NAFDAC through their helpline, email, or by using the Med-Safety app available on Android and iOS.”
