Prof. Victor Chude, Registrar, Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS) emerges as the President-elect of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) by the governing council of IUSS at the World Soil Science Congress in Glasgow, United Kingdom held in August.
IUSS is the global union of soil scientists that promotes all branches of soil science and supports all soil scientists across the world in the pursuit of their activities.
Responding to Capitalwatch Media reporter in an interview, Amb Majidadi describes the election of Prof Chude as confirmation of his long time hard work, commitment and sacrifices to the growth and development of soil science in Nigeria.
“Recall, Prof. Chude’s effort earned Nigeria and Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS) 2021 first position award globally and today the world recognizes his earnest dedication and contribution to progress soil science globally by electing him as the President of the world union,” He stated.
Amb. Majidadi added that “Prof Chude has been one leader in Nigeria who regardless of the scarce resources has ensured the best is achieved in all the positions he held. I hereby congratulate you on this milestone achievement and I wish you the very best”.
Noteworthy, Chude’s new position makes him the first President of the Union from an African country since its establishment in 1924 (98 years ago).
It is expected that the president-elect shall provide leadership, focus and direction both within and outside of the IUSS, work with other Presidential Committees and in consultation with the Executive Committee and Council towards development and implement strategic directions and actions to take IUSS forward.
