It is no longer news, the gruesome and brutal attempted murder of Fatima Suleiman the 16 year old passed out student of Khalifa International Model School Sokoto who on 11th of August after she completed her NECO Senior School Certificate Examinations and celebrated the completion of her exams with her mates committed by Aliyu Sanusi Umar.
Since the sad incident, Fatima Suleiman had suffered severe physical and psychological trauma haven her leg amputated and yet undergoing other series of major operations in a hospital in Abuja.
However, it is unfortunate that securing Justice for Fatima is still pending (facing setbacks), as parents of the attempted murderer are shying away from responsibility.
So far, Almushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (AITA) as a reputable Non-Governmental Organization with the mandate to project transparency, good governance and justice in Nigeria is the only body insisting on fighting for Fatima’s right and justice.
Notably, AITA has proven to the family of Fatima and the general public of its commitment to fight to finish by ensuring that Justice is served and the matter is not swept under the carpet as Fatima and her family have been thrown into an untold pain and hardship and her once bubbling life and bright future could be jeopardized by the actions of Aliyu Sanusi Umar and his family.
Haven arrived at the National Assembly (Reps Wing) in pursuit for justice for Fatima, AITA request gained attention and the case was handed over to the Committee on Public Petitions under the Chairmanship of Chief Jerry Alagboso.
The Committee in its three consecutive seatings invited the parent of Aliyu but they failed to honour any until when they were invited by their house of reps member through a member of the committee for a reconciliation meeting which held on 26th October, 2022 (Wednessday) at the National Assemly.
The meeting had in attendance representatives of Fatima and Aliyu, AITA and Honourable Kalambaina who served as the representative of the Reps Committee to ensure this matter is resolved amicably.
Unfortunately, parents of Aliyu during the seating refused to take responsibility of the medical bills so far accumulated in the hospital talk more of further treatments that will include operations to see that Fatima though being deformed but could have an ease to the misery on her caused by Aliyu.
On this regard, the first reconciliation meeting at the National Assembly came to conclusion without arriving at a common ground. Of course, going by the outcome of the meeting, the fight for Justice for Fatima can be said to be in a slow motion as her offenders are showing no interest in taking responsibility for their action.
Noteworthy, while Fatima is still languishing in the hospital and going through extreme pains, there is an ongoing plan to fly Aliyu who committed the crime to Turkey to school according to a member of the family.
It is on this regard that AITA through its National President, Ambassador Aminu Abubakar Majidadi rededicates it commitment to ensure Fatima gets justice using all within its power.
“We are not and we will not relent in getting justice for Fatima, just as in every other similar cases we handled and those we are currently handling. This young man has crippled the life of Fatima and yet his parents are not ready to take responsibility which is unfortunate, condemnable and unacceptable.” Majidadi stated.
Ambassador Majidadi further said that there is no retreat and no surrender in fighting for Fatima and every other person whose right is been tempered with or denied.
Amb. Majidadi finally commended the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives through its Committee on Public Petition for working toward getting justice for Fatima, but more is expected.
