His Excellency, Ambassador Aminu Abubakar Majidadi, the National President of Almushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (AITA) has urged politicians and other Nigerians to remain calm and accept in good faith outcomes of the Saturday March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly elections that took place in 28 states of the Federation.
According Majidadi, “So far, some of the results of the Saturday 18th March states governorship elections as announced by INEC have elicited reactions and tensions. We are aware of the unrest in Kano after the announcement of the state’s governorship election results which caused the imposition of curfew by the state government.”
He added:“It is on this regard that I want to speak into the minds of Nigerians to understand that election is like any other contest that there must be a winner and a loser, which what the game is all about”.
Majidadi said election is not and shouldn’t be taken as a do-or- die affair. The national president AITA advised that as more of the elections results are unveiling, whoever is not satisfied with the results should not take the laws into his or her hands but should approach the court to seek redress.
The anti-corruption crusader commended the entire process of the Saturday polls which though in few places there were reports of violence, vote buying and other irregularities, but majorly it was smooth exercise.
“I am urging the people of Kano state and Nigeria as a whole to give peace a chance regardless of party affiliations. I also urge our politicians to stop instigative violence whenever they didn’t win elections because leadership and power is giving by God.”
