AITA President Raises Alarm Over Increasing ‘One Chance’ Criminal Activity in Abuja, Urges Heightened Vigilance

By Cecilia Ogezi

The National President of the Almushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (AITA), Ambassador Aminu Majidadi, has called on residents of Abuja, urging them to remain highly vigilant as the prevalence of ‘one chance’ criminal activities escalates to worrying levels across the nation’s capital.

Ambassador Majidadi’s plea comes in response to a disturbing rise in the number of these dangerous incidents, where unsuspecting individuals board commercial vehicles operated by criminals who later rob or extort them. He recounted a harrowing experience that hit close to home, involving one of his organization’s staff members who fell victim to the scheme. The staff unknowingly boarded one of these infamous vehicles, only to be trapped in an extortion attempt, with the criminals demanding a ransom of N500,000 in exchange for their release.

Acting decisively, Amb. Majidadi reached out to a tracking service, whose swift intervention prompted the criminals to abandon their malicious plan. Fearing that their location would be uncovered, they released the staff member unharmed but absconded with a few personal belongings.

In light of the increasing frequency of these crimes, Amb. Majidadi is urging the relevant security agencies to intensify their efforts in curbing this menace. He called for stronger surveillance and more proactive measures to dismantle these criminal networks. Furthermore, he appealed to the public to exercise caution, avoid suspicious vehicles, and remain alert at all times to safeguard themselves against falling victim to these brazen criminals.

Majidadi stressed the urgent need for a collective response to address the growing insecurity in Abuja, as both residents and authorities must collaborate to thwart the threat posed by these criminal syndicates.
