NJC approves Nwosu-Iheme, Sankey, Tsammani, 8 other as Supreme Court justices

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 11 successful candidates to President Bola Tinubu for appointment to fill the vacant position as justices of the Supreme Court.

The Council equally recommend the appointment of one Justice of the Court of Appeal and heads of  various courts.

The recommendations which where reached at the end of the 104 meeting of the Council confirmed Daily Sun exclusive report of Monday, December 4 that 11 new Justices of the Supreme Court will emerge this week. The meeting considered the list of candidates presented by its interview committee at the end of deliberations.

The successful candidates recommended for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court are; Justices Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme; Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa; Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani; Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein; Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya; Justice Stephen Jonah Adah; Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru; Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur;       Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar and   Justice Mohammed Baba Idris.

The sole justice recommended by council for elevation to the bench of the Court of Appeal is Justice Mohammed Ahmed Ramat.

Council further recommend the appointment of Justice Joel Filibus Agya and Justice Umar Abubakar as the chief Judge of Taraba and Kebbi States respectively. While Hon. Kadi Sadiq Usman Mukhtar has been penciled down for appointment as Grand Kadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Kebbi State, Justice A. I. Femi-Segun has been recommended for appointment as President, Customary Court of Appeal, Ogun State.

Others recommended by the NJC as President, Customary Court of Appeal are Justice Alfred Yakubu (Taraba State) and Justice Tajudeen M. Abdulganiyu (Oyo State).

Council further listed Justices Amaebi Ibomo Orukari and Akinyemi Martins Ayodele for appointment as High Court Judge Bayelsa and Ogun States respectively.

It recommended three candidates-Ama Edet Ekpo; Theresa Ansa Agom and Jalarth Ogar Agim as Judges for Cross River State.

Three candidates- Aminu Abfullahi Gusau; Usman Hassan Gummi and Hadi Sani emerged for appointment as Kadis of Sharia Court of Appeal, Zamfara State.   

Two others, Abubakar Ahmad.Tijani and.Aliyu Ibrahim Ebbema were further recommended for appointment as Sharia Court of Appeal, Nasarawa State.

Meanwhile, the NJC has recommended the appointment of nine High Court Judges for Kano State as follows Fatima Adamu;      Hauwa Lawal Umar; Musa Ahmad     Musa Daihuru Mohammed; Farida Rabiu Danbappa; Halima Aliyu Nasir; Aisha Mahmoud; Adam Abdullahi and Hanif Sanusi Yusuf.

While Opokuma David Lawrence was recommended for appointment as a Judge, Customary Court of Appeal Bayelsa State, four others were listed for promotion as  High CourtJudges for Nasarawa State. They are Esther Mami Ejeh; Ibrahim Dauda Shekarau; Musa Muhammad Dallah and Makama Tanze Benjamin. Two judges were recommended for appointment for the Customary Court of Appeal, Ogun State. They are Awoyomi Bolanle Adenike and   Lawal Adeniyi Olusanya.             

Meanwhile, a statement by the NJC Director Information, Soji Oye said all recommended candidates to the Supreme Court Bench would be sworn-in after the approval of their recommendation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the subsequent confirmation of their appointment by the Senate.

While the various Heads of Court recommended would also be sworn-in upon the approval of their appointment by their various state governors and subsequent confirmation of same by their respective state Houses of Assembly.
